Rachel Pereira of Shades of Blue Interiors had the opportunity to help out others and transform two rooms for a local family with the help of The Home Depot. Read how she did it below!
A few months ago, I embarked on a project for a deserving local family who had recently adopted three siblings. With some help from The Home Depot, I was able to complete two room makeovers in only six weeks. The basic builder’s grade girls’ bedroom now features built-in bookcases, a window seat and statement wallpaper. The boys’ shared room features shelves with a desk, a trundle bed under a bunk bed, and a reading nook. Their rooms hardly look the same anymore and it now suits the children’s interests and storage needs much better. The Girls’ Room BeforeThe girls’ room started out with two-tone turquoise walls, a window only covered by blinds, two beds covered with stuffed animals, a small bookcase at the end of one bed, and a small dresser. The Design PlanAfter speaking with their mom, the goal for the girls’ room was to create a space where they could read, relax, and sleep. We also wanted the space to provide storage for books, stuffed animals, and clothes. With a limited budget, I needed to be strategic on what I would buy, what I could make, and what we could use that they already had. For the girls room, I created a design board that would keep the beds they had, and keep the chandelier. The new room would feature colorful, woodland wallpaper, woodland animal art, a beautiful dark teal rug, and a rustic, natural wood-tone dresser. I would also be building a set of bookcases and a window seat around the window. The Built-Ins and Window SeatI started by creating the feature wall, which was the built-in bookcases and window seat. I knew this addition would add so much storage and character to the room, as well as provide a special spot for the girls’ to read. I built the bookcases and window seat out of MDF, attached them to the studs in the wall, then finished them by using pine trim on the edges, and painting everything with white semi-gloss paint. I added crown moulding to finish off those bookcases, which had to be continued around the room of course! The WallpaperThe wallpaper is whimsical and full of color and was applied to both walls adjacent to the bookcases to create a symmetrical look. This wallpaper was the glue-on type which was quite easy to install. I rolled on the wallpaper adhesive over the section of the wall where the first vertical ‘row’ of wallpaper would go. After making sure the wallpaper was level, I smoothed it over starting from the top, working down. I cut it with a utility knife where it met the baseboard (I used a putty spatula to guide my cuts). The next ‘row’, I made sure to line up the pattern and just cut each piece as I went. Additional StorageTo provide additional, practical storage, we incorporated this beautiful, natural wood, long dresser. This also allows art to be displayed above it and a lamp for some ambient lighting besides the overhead chandelier. The last key component to bringing in the turquoise blue that both girls loved, was the addition of this traditional rug. The colors in the rug are vibrant and coordinate with the wallpaper, but are still versatile to grow with them as their style evolves. The Boys’ Room BeforeThe boys’ shared room started out with light blue walls, a navy blue accent wall, and dark blue curtains. The Design PlanAll three boys that share this room love super heroes, so that was the obvious choice for the theme. However, I wanted to create something that would also resonate with them as they grow older. I wanted to maximize floor space, so I knew I would be adding a trundle bed below the bunk bed. I needed to create an accessible place to hold books, and have a comfortable place to read. The design plan I came up with included a graphic wall mural, an industrial bunk bed that would fit in with the theme of the mural, a large rustic modern dresser, shelves on the wall to hold books, a large modern blue rug, a new ceiling fan and lots of bold color brought in by super hero framed art, bedding and shelf decor. The Super Hero Theme Boy’s RoomWe started out by putting up the wall mural, then we installed this matte-black ceiling fan. Besides offering two different types of light (one near the base that is a more diffused light, and one by the blades for more direct light), it also eliminated the need for the portable fans they had previously in this room. The Trundle BedWe swapped their bunk bed for this industrial, metal one with wood accents. I love how sturdy it is. The wood veneer footboards match the other stained wood elements in the room. You can see we built the trundle bed (using plywood and 1x8s, and caster wheels) , which I painted black to match the bed. The Reading NookI put a comfortable armchair by the window with a floor lamp so they could have a place to read. There is also ample space between the bunk bed and this chair so they could later add some floor cushions if they want some additional cozy places to read. The window got new black-out curtains that we hung higher and wider which help the windows appear larger and the ceiling taller. A Place to CreateMy favorite part in the boys’ room is this little shelf and desk area. I stained a few boards, attached spray painted brackets and screwed them into the wall studs. I love how this displays books, a few toys, art, and some frames. The kids love having this little place to create complete with crayons, markets, glue sticks, and scissors at an easily accessible place. I put these three metal stools in primary colors below the desk and they are the perfect size! Additional StorageOn this last wall, I placed this beautiful, wood veneer dresser which has a rustic modern design. This long, low dresser gives them nice deep drawers and wide surface to place a lamp (thrifted and spray painted yellow) or decor. It also provides wall space above to put up pictures of their favorite superheroes. Finally, we brought back into the room that bold deep blue they love with this navy moroccan patterned rug. This area rug really grounds the space and connects all the furniture. The rugs aren’t very thick so they don’t interfere with ease of vacuuming or furniture height, butthey are substantial enough to not curl up or get wrinkled. I hope you loved the result of this makeover as much as I did! With the help of family and friends, we were able to give this deserving family two beautiful rooms for their adopted additions that they will hopefully enjoy for years to come! Gbeke Omosebi of Simplicity For Designs renovated her children’s playroom with the help of The Home Depot. These simple and inexpensive touches added a great sense of personality to the room for her kids.
The reveal of our kids’ playroom is here! Completing this playroom has been on our to-do list for awhile. Our kids are growing and we knew it was time to work on this project and have it functional for them. Transforming the PlayroomI’m excited to share this transformation with home decor products from HomeDepot.com. Not only does our kids’ playroom feels casual, comfy and modern, but there is so much functionality. Best of all, it’s become our kids’ favorite hanging out space! The playroom is located on the second floor in our home. It’s a pretty large area and I knew I wanted to do something unique with it. On the walls, we added shiplap planks vertically and painted it white for a timeless, airy and modern feel to the space. Creating a Space for Multiple UsesWe wanted our kids’ playroom to be relaxing yet beautifully styled. The playroom is a space where they should feel safe to play and be creative. We can also use it for family movie nights and for playdates with friends. We looked for a sofa that was family-friendly, durable and modern. I found this gray upholstered fabric sofa that consists of straight modern lines, and we chose a shade of grey that is perfect for hiding stains. The cushion covers are also removable and machine washable, a must-have feature for a family with little ones. Picking the Perfect Color PaletteSticking with a neutral palette, this white kids’ play chair is a great find on HomeDepot.com. They are sturdy and easily wipeable. Finding the perfect rug for the playroom was a tough one because there were so many attractive options on HomeDepot.com. We also had to have this navy blue striped rug to round out the space. We love the simplicity of the pattern and the bold color won us over. Finding the Perfect Decor AccentsFriends! Are you like me and love a good set of pillows? We found a great selection of accent pillows at HomeDepot.com. Some of my favorites include this white and black striped pillow, off-white and grey accent tassel pillow and grey squared with tassels pillow. Every room needs cozy and comfortable throws, and I found this textured throw at HomeDepot.com, too. I love to drape throws on the arm of the sofa for easy accessibility. To add warm tones into an all-white playroom, I knew I wanted brass light fixtures. This mid-modern brass light fixture was a perfect find at HomeDepot.com. I like the frosted globe to prevent the kids from accessing the hot bulb. Storage and OrganizationIn a playroom, the goal is to have adequate surfaces to keep things organized. I installed this floating shelf to organize the children’s stationery. We all know that a must-have in a kids’ space is adequate toy storage. I found this huge storage basket which was the perfect storage solution. They are durable and flexible so they can accommodate a lot of toys. Our kids have a lot of artwork that we wanted to display. I found these simple matted frames at HomeDepot.com. I like to mix different colored frames and textures when putting together a gallery wall. Here, I mixed wood frames with white frames and black frames for contrast and in different heights for interest on the walls. Instead of hanging the frames on the shiplap wall, I used this picture ledge shelf (available in multiple lengths) to group and display their artwork. The ceiling fan was also updated in the playroom to this modern, streamlined and wifi-enabled smart ceiling fan found at HomeDepot.com. We love that it’s simple yet easily controllable by smart devices and the instructions to install it were straight forward but always consult an electrician if you’re unsure of the wiring steps. Our PlayroomWe love how our kids’ playroom turned out, with every corner furnished and styled with home décor pieces that fit our style. The space is still kid-friendly, casual and functional. We’re truly excited that our kids can express their creativity in a space they love. I hope our kids’ playroom inspires you to create a functional and comfortable space for your kids. When you’re a part of military family, you tend to move often and updating your home space can feel limited. Christy Black of 11 Magnolia Lane was able to take advantage of a few The Home Depot products to give her bathroom a much needed renter-friendly update with a vintage touch.
When we moved into Magnolia Cottage this past July, I knew that the downstairs bathroom was going to need a facelift sooner rather than later. While I absolutely loved the vintage touches, like the clawfoot tub, the cast-iron apron front sink, and the beadboard, the space looked slightly dated, especially the discolored vinyl floor. Since we’re a military family and we move often, we’re renting this home, but fortunately the homeowner is 100% supportive of all of my updates and projects. Since we’ve partnered with The Home Depot in the past, I knew this could be another great collaboration if they saw the same potential for this space that I did, and I was thrilled when I got the green light to go ahead with the project. Pre-Project PlanningMy first step when I’m planning a room redo is to create a list of projects and prioritize what needs to happen first. The first phase of my plan for this room included new paint on the walls and ceiling, updated lighting, a new mirror, and updated shelves for storage. Phase two consisted of new faucets for the sink and clawfoot tub, a new shower curtain ring, a sink skirt, and peel and stick vinyl flooring. As I picked out colors and finishes, I created a design board to ensure that all of my choices would work well together in this small space. I wanted to be sure to keep the vintage elements that reflected the age and character of the house while updating the finishes and function for modern living. Since the cast iron tub was already black and white, I elected to use those colors along with a very pale blue (that reads white) on the walls and bring warmth in by using brass fixtures for the sink and tub. Phase 1First, I removed the moon shelves, patched the nail and screw holes, and painted. Next, I built new shelves using these great wood corbels and stair treads painted white. I also added hooks underneath for towels. I learned years ago how to do simple electrical work like installing light fixtures and replacing switches. That knowledge has been invaluable. The new lighting and large, circular mirror made a huge difference in the feel of the room, as did the Edison light bulbs that I used in the brass light fixture. Phase 2When the plumber arrived to install the brand new beautiful, vintage faucets in the sink and tub, things got even more exciting. I absolutely love the brass fixtures we chose! After discussion with the homeowner, we decided to hire a professional for this part of the project. While my husband and I can change out a “normal” faucet, there’s nothing normal about the plumbing in a 100-year-old house! The plumber even ran into some unexpected challenges, because we all know that’s how home improvement projects work. At the end of the day we knew that everything had been done competently and thoroughly, and would last for years to come. I had begun to install the peel and stick vinyl floor tiles before the plumber came, but waited to finish the work around the pipes until he’d finished with the faucets just in case anything had to move. The tiles were so easy to work with. I could easily trim them with utility scissors to ensure a perfect fit. The flooring was the perfect finishing touch to tie everything together perfectly, in my opinion. We’re all thrilled with the new look of this small bathroom and how it’s now both functional and beautiful. I can say without a doubt that it’s one of my very favorite room renovations ever. Many thanks to The Home Depot, my patient husband, and Albert, our wonderful plumber, for helping to make this space so lovely! As a lucky winner of the 2019 Orange Tank Competition, Brittany made her dream project to transform her backyard into the perfect family hangout a reality.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to attend a home blogging conference where I pitched a backyard makeover to The Home Depot. I was so excited to win the competition, and now I get to share the final reveal with you today. Before The RemodelWhen we purchased our home two years ago it had some great features, but it lacked backyard space for our kids to play. There was only a small, sloping yard, lots of pine trees (not exactly the fun kind you can climb) and a patio deck that was in rough shape. The deck had multiple areas of mildew, and the old stain was coming off in certain areas. The deck posts were warped and split due to dry rot and damage over the years. Transforming The DeckSince it wasn’t in the budget to replace the deck boards and railings, I used a pressure washer to deep clean and remove the old stain. We did, however, replace the 4” x 4” deck posts. Once everything was dry, I applied Behr’s Waterproofing Solid Deck Stain & Sealer in the color Slate. When we replaced the posts, we decided to extend them up so we could hang string lights from them and enjoy being out here at night, too. New post caps were a must to prevent damage from the elements. When it came to patio furniture, my husband and I decided to build an outdoor sofa. We have built many things over the years, but outdoor seating was a first for us. We purchased the cushions first so we were able to create a custom fit, and we used pressure treated lumber and our kreg jig to assemble the sofa. Transforming the YardThe biggest challenge with the backyard is that the entire lawn slopes so in order to put a playhouse outside, we needed to clear some trees and build a small deck for a level area. We used 2-in. x 6-in. and 1-in. x 6-in. lumber to build it. We already had the playhouse, but I gave it a custom paint job using Rustoleum spray paint. I also added interactive features like a wireless doorbell, an exterior light and even a faux chimney using the Kingston brick panel. I wanted somewhere the kids could get their wiggles out. Since there isn’t really anywhere we could put a swingset, we used what we had – lots of trees! With nature on our side, we cleared some of the debris and attached a few pieces of 2 in. x 8 in. lumber directly to the trees using lag bolts. Then we hung two beautiful woven hammock chairs and a trapeze bar using carabiners and chain links. As the final addition to the backyard, I assembled pavers into a fire pit ring for family hangouts. I added five Adirondack chairs around the fire pit, one for each of us. But I think we’ll need to add a few more chairs because our friends are going to want to come hang in our new backyard. The Final RevealAre you ready to see the transformation? Here is our brand new family friendly backyard! The deck is now the perfect place to unwind after a long day. And there’s space for our three daughters to roam free. It’s one thing to be curled up with a book, but it’s even better when it’s outdoors. The beautiful ceramic patio stools are perfect to hold small items or plants. The playhouse came to life using paint and supplies from The Home Depot. The doorbell and exterior light are my favorites! Everyone wants a turn in this hammock. The tassel fringe is so pretty and the freestanding base means it can go anywhere. String lights wrapped around the tree trunks give a nice glow as the sun sets. One kid can relax in the hammock swing while the other is twirling on the trapeze bar. The fire bowl was made using concrete, gel fuel & lava rocks and sits on top of our handmade coffee table. We’ve already enjoyed many nights out here together. I hope this inspires you to think outside the box when working with a space that challenges you. I’d like to give one more big thank you to The Home Depot for helping us create our family friendly backyard.

Bryan Fiveash of Do It Yourself Daddy is a busy father of four who understands the agony of managing carpet spills. Bryan showcases how easy it is to install LifeProof Vinyl Plank Flooring from The Home Depot, ensuring a beautiful but resilient home update.
As a DIY-er and homeowner, I’m always on the lookout for products that would not only look great in our home but are also practical for our family and are made to last.
When the time came to upgrade our kitchen and dining room floors, LifeProof Sterling Oak 8.7 in. x 47.6 in. Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring from The Home Depot was the clear choice for us. Allow me to share some reasons why!
Because of the seemingly endless amount of choices out there, shopping for flooring can be a daunting task. With that said, you can count on The Home Depot to provide expert knowledge and insight that’s only a click, phone call or short drive away. In addition to my research online, The Home Depot’s large LifeProof flooring display really helped me make a great flooring decision for our family.
We are a large family that includes four very energetic kids ranging from 11 to 4. When it comes to the needs of our family, health is the number one concern. When I discovered that LifeProof Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring has no phthalates or formaldehyde, it went to the top of my list of choices.
Like most families with kids, we are also a family of spills! Drink spills happen every day, all day for us. Sometimes, these spills aren’t reported to mom and dad. We find out about them when we discover the bottom of our socks are wet.
Our new LifeProof Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring, which is exclusive to The Home Depot, is 100% waterproof, which gives mom and dad assurance that we won’t have to deal with warped floors every time a drink is knocked over. Clean-up is as simple as using a dust mop, vacuum, or a pH-neutral cleaner. It’s also scratch-resistant, which is nice. But we fully expect to deal with marks and scratches from our VERY active kiddos.
Easy LifeProof Install
Having installed both hardwood and laminate flooring in a different residence several years ago, a secondary consideration for me was the ease of installation. I can tell you that this flooring is very easy to install!
These floating/interlocking planks have the underlayment already attached to them and no acclimation is required. They can also be installed right over most existing interior surfaces; I installed mine over my existing vinyl sheet floors.
For cuts, these vinyl planks can be scored with a razor knife and snapped. I’m a table saw kinda guy, so I chose to use my saw with a Diablo laminate-cutting saw blade. Be sure to also pick up a Roberts Pro Flooring Installation Kit which makes installing this flooring even easier.
The Zamma Vinyl Multi-Purpose Reducer Molding is another great item to pick up to give a finished look to your new floors next to your existing carpets.
The Final Look
Our rooms feel fresh, new, and lighter thanks to the great color and look that these vinyl planks provide. We chose the Sterling Oak color. But all the LifeProof color choices look great and match the latest trends in flooring.
We are absolutely thrilled about our new LifeProof Luxury Vinyl Plank Floors! Our kids have played on these floors non-stop since I installed them. This was such a great choice for our family that should last for years to come.

Renovating the master bedroom is everyone’s favorite project, and it doesn’t have to be that difficult! With a little help from The Home Depot, Chelsea Johnson of Making Manzanita took her bedroom from blah to boho and matched her personal style.
We’ve been working on renovating our master bedroom over the last several months. We started this summer with installing new hardwood floors, then we moved on to giving the walls a fun two-tone paint makeover. Lastly, we built a DIY barn door on the doorway to our new master bathroom. Now, let’s take it back and see where things started before the renovation began.
Whew! Things were in pretty rough condition, right? After the new flooring and paint, the room certainly felt like we were making progress. But it wasn’t until we teamed up with The Home Depot to layer in the decorations, furniture and new bedding that our boho master bedroom really came to life. There are so many things to consider when you are decorating your master bedroom. After all, this room should be your relaxing oasis at the end of your hectic days, right? That’s a lot of pressure for a room! I’m going to share some tips for decorating your master bedroom to help simplify things a bit! Tip #1: Create a mood boardHaving a mood board for your master bedroom creates an easy-to-follow design plan for your room’s vibe, so you can buy decor and furniture with confidence. You’ll be shocked how much it helps to see the decor and furniture selections next to each other to make sure you’re going to love everything when it all comes together. The mood board for your master bedroom should include furniture selections, color scheme, decorative pillows and an area rug. You could also add in some inspiration pictures of bedrooms that you love. You can check out the mood board that I created for our master bedroom here. Tip #2: Consider room layout when choosing furnitureBefore you start scanning homedepot.com looking for your bedroom furniture (and boy do they have TONS to choose from!), be sure you consider the room layout first. It helps to know where the furniture is going to be located so you can double check measurements while you shop. For instance, in our master bedroom, we knew where the bed was going which helped us choose the right size of rug that was going to cover the bottom half of the bed. I talk more about rug sizes in tip #4 below. I love the pattern that this fun 6×9 boho rug adds to the bedroom.
We also knew what size dresser would fit well on the wall without being too large and in the way of the door. We are just loving this Sauder Cottage Road 6-Drawer Dresser. It’a perfect in the space. Lastly, we were aware that we had very limited floor space for the nightstands because we actually have a pretty small master bedroom. We opted to create DIY shelves instead of nightstands with 12-in. boards and forged steel brackets. This gives us the flexibility of sliding something under the shelf on the open floor space if needed (like a dog bed or basket for the throw pillows).
Tip #3: Choose neutral beddingI personally think white fluffy bedding is always a good idea. It’s a classic that will never go out of style. It instantly elevates the room and makes it feel bigger and less cluttered, which promotes calmness in the room. We added a textured white duvet cover and oversized Euro Shams from The Company Store. The bedding texture creates some interest, but it also keeps things clean and simple. The fun boho throw pillows and blanket instantly add a ton of boho character without overwhelming things. I also love that white and simple bedding allows you to incorporate fun styles and patterns on your sheets. We fell in love with these white and tan stripe set that we found.
Tip #4: Incorporate an area rug under the bedOne very easy tip when decorating your master bedroom is to add an area rug under the bed. Even if it’s the only thing you do, adding a rug can make a huge difference for the space. An area rug helps anchor the large furniture and adds a ton of style. If you’re stumped on what size rug to choose to go underneath your bed, this guide from The Home Depot is a great resource. It suggests that you should have about 3-ft. of rug space around the bed. We didn’t have enough room for this in our bedroom, so we opted for a 6×9 boho rug with a fun pattern and tassels. It tucks in nicely under the foot of our bed. Tip #5: Always always always add curtainsTo be completely honest, I was a sceptic about the whole “curtains are necessary” thing. In our last bedroom, we had cellular shades, and I never ended up hanging curtains. I didn’t get what the big deal was. In this bedroom, we do plan on adding cellular shades as well, but now I know that curtains do SO much more for a space rather than just blocking light or adding privacy.
Curtains add texture and a coziness to the space immediately. Just look at the above picture before we added the curtains to our master bedroom. There’s a huge difference, right?? I love these simple white sheer curtains with this modern black curtain rod. So here’s the deal, if you are sceptical about curtains, just give it a try when you are decorating your master bedroom. It’s not that big of an investment, so there’s not much of a risk here. Tip #6: Add plants to give life to the roomIf you are struggling with what type of decor to add to your master bedroom, the best place to start is with plants! Plants are seriously the easiest thing to add to your decor. Throw a small succulent on the nightstand, add a faux tree in the corner or hang a plant from the ceiling. You’ll be shocked with what a difference it makes! If you are worried about taking care of real indoor plants, you can really accomplish the same thing with faux plants too! The Home Depot has great options for both real and faux indoor plants! We just love the hanging plant we added to the corner. It’s called string of bananas, and it looks great in this pot with this black macrame hanger. Tip #7: Don’t forget about lightingMy last tip for you when decorating your master bedroom is to not forget about the lighting! We had a boring flush mount light in here before, and we swapped it out for this gorgeous light. It immediately added so much character to the room. Incorporating a 2nd or 3rd light source to the bedroom can also make a huge difference. Ambient lighting can make a room feel so cozy. These budget friendly wall sconces that we added to the bedside are great. I love that these can be incorporated as a plug-in or hardwired. We kept it easy and did the plug-in method and covered the wire with a wire channel. It’s paintable so it blends right into the wall color. Decorating your master bedroom to become the relaxing oasis at the end of your crazy days doesn’t have to be hard! Start with a mood board and a general room layout plan so you can shop with confidence. If you’re stuck choosing bedding, go with something classic, like white. Don’t forget to add an area rug, curtains and refreshed lighting to your shopping list. Lastly, sprinkle in plants and greenery throughout to bring life to the space.
By incorporating these tips, we’ve taken our master bedroom from blah to boho. We created the modern boho bedroom of my dreams! It’s a simple and relaxing space that I absolutely love. Thank you so much to The Home Depot for partnering with us on this bedroom makeover!

Check out this festive holiday decor by Suzannah Stanley of Create/Enjoy. This quick, easy and festive Christmas decor will have your home lighting up the block and it’s all available at The Home Depot.
We made choosing our holiday decor easy this year by finding everything we need at The Home Depot! We always get a live tree. But didn’t have time to go out to a farm and cut one out this season. Instead we picked out a beautiful fresh Noble fir from our local Home Depot store. And picked up three 15’ fresh cedar garlands there, too! Tree and Essential Accessories for Christmas DecorWe decked out the tree with other essentials from The Home Depot, like this beautiful light-up tree topper and these glass ornaments in “Smoke”. (HD has a glass ornaments in tons of colors, great way to add a specific color and I love the quality!) We also got this genius waterproof under-tree mat in Khaki (very close to our floor color). It’s covered by the tree skirt, but it protects the floor and provides a great base for the tree stand. We also bought some new lights. We used to run into the problem of two strings in one color white and another strand in a warmer or cooler color… no good! We bought this roll of 300 lights–it’s over 98’ of LED lights that stay lit even if a bulb gets damaged or missing. Such an upgrade! Garlands and More GreeneryI like to do a lot of natural elements like evergreen pieces as the foundation for our holiday decor. It’s classic, naturally beautiful, smells great, and goes with everything! I love to start with fresh greenery and add in some faux for fullness and variety. On our mantel, I combined a few old faux garlands that with a couple of the 15’ fresh cedar ones from The Home Depot. Asymmetrical garlands on mantels are trending and I’m so glad I tried this look! I hung our stockings with these stocking clips this year instead of the weighted stocking hangers we’ve used before. These stocking clips are like magic and stretch to mantel ledges up to 3-in. tall. I used the other garland to hang over the arched openings in our historic home. I used these medium wire Command hooks so we don’t damage the walls, and they are working great. The wire hook is easier to hook onto than the plastic kind. (Tip: if you hang the garland over an opening low enough, you can see it from both rooms!) Throughout the HouseIn our dining room, I brought in this mini Christmas tree on the sideboard. I love adding holiday decor in more than just the living room. This tree comes pre-lit, super easy! I added a few small ornaments and garland for fun. (Side note: the blue-grey paint on this buffet is Dawn Gray by Behr from The Home Depot! I also accented a large window in our dining room with a 24″ wide mixed greenery wreath with ribbon matching those on garlands. These old windows just scream for a wreath in front! I added two more of these mixed greenery wreaths on the living room windows for a cohesive look (and LOTS of greenery!). Tip when buying faux greenery: choose pieces with a mix of varieties of faux evergreens. It looks more natural. That way if one of the types isn’t super realistic it blends in and you don’t notice. I hung all these wreaths with these small clear Command hooks. Going BiggerYou can’t miss the big black chandelier in this large room! We actually just added that this Christmas season. This light fixture connection was capped since we bought the house and I think long before that, too. For such a large room, it’s hard to get enough lighting for certain tasks with accent lighting. Adding a 6-light chandelier has been a huge functional upgrade! Plus, it’s super wide so it has great presence and just enough traditional shape, while still being modern enough for our tastes. If you have a small, basic light fixture in a large room, consider replacing it with a piece that adds to the overall look of the room! I’m absolutely in love with our holiday decor this season and love our new pieces from The Home Depot! Nothing rings in the holidays more than spending time decorating with family. As a fairly new homeowner, Taryn Newton of Glamorous Versatility was able to take advantage of a few Home Depot products to create a classic outdoor holiday decor for her yard in an affordable way.
The holidays are here! I can’t believe we are in December and Christmas will be here before we know it! I love decorating our home, and getting it all decked out for the holidays. One of my favorite areas to decorate is the outside of our home. Ever since becoming a homeowner a couple years ago, I have loved having the opportunity to make a festive statement for extra curb appeal. The ProcessShopping for outdoor decor can be a bit overwhelming thinking about what style to get, how much stuff is too much, and trying to stay in budget. I followed this process to with making my selections.
Quick tip: I would first designate time to assemble the items, then decorate. The ReviewWe absolutely loved the way everything turned out! The boys always love when we decorate our home. Next year, the boys are already making requests to get a giant inflatable Santa! Have fun with decorating and make it a fun family activity. Our boys had so much fun help in any capacity their little hands could! When it comes to Christmas decor, the sky’s the limit! Nichol Naranjo was able to think outside of the box and take advantage of a few Home Depot products to demonstrate how holiday decor can easily extend to your patio area.
Christmas is quickly coming upon us! I don’t know about you but I love making our entire house (tiny yard included) extra festive this time of year! Thanks to The Home Depot, I’ve already made a head start outdoors! I’ve mentioned before that our small yard is an extension of our home, even in December. Although New Mexico isn’t necessarily warm enough to entertain outdoors year round, it isn’t as cold as, say Fargo. Either way, we utilize this space for our great, big Christmas Eve party and it really is a lifesaver that evening. We have an outdoor fire pit and heater, so everyone is pretty comfortable. It at least allows for our guests to decide where they want to hang out and to move around. Our living space is limited, so we utilize the entire house for this particular party. Since our patio is very visible throughout our downstairs living spaces, I like for it sparkle extra this time of year too! Taking on The Home Depot’s Holiday Style Challenge this year has been extra fun as I’ve had to think outside of the box (my house) a bit more. I knew I wanted for this space to incorporate several things this holiday season. SparkleI think it’s safe to say that the majority of us want our houses to have that extra sparkle this year and Christmas lights are one of our favorite ways to add that sparkle, am I right?!? I chose these larger incandescent string lights to brighten our tree even more than before! I love these string lights. The glow is warm and the price is right! WhimsyI always enjoy a touch of whimsy to any space but especially at Christmastime! I felt a few {or a small family} of LED Lighted White Deer and these amazing birch trees would add just that! Notice the three deer…for our own three daughters. I could not love these gorgeous LED deer more! They’re from the Serenity Outdoor Collection, which is SO lovely by the way! Thejingle collars and pretty pinecone bows are such beautiful details. These LED birch trees are gorgeous too and I am sure they may end up inside some time in the future as well. Just look at them! They really would be beautiful anywhere! As you know, I also have a thing for nature so these deer and birch trees check off that category as well. Double win! PopA pop of color {even a neutral or metallic} or plaid in this case always helps to take a space to the next level. I have really been craving a more traditional and organic Christmas this year. This plaid woven throw is perfect outdoors or indoors! We love to bring a cozy blanket out here to cuddle up next to the fire pit with a warm drink and wonderful book. This plaid beauty is absolutely perfect! I think this space is ready for a Christmas party and every day in between, don’t you? I love that The Home Depot carries so much to choose from and something for everyone! Be sure to check out the rest of their holiday decor for indoors and outdoors. You will not be disappointed! One more space completed and a cozy space to retreat to in this holiday season! Happy holiday decorating! Check out this effortless, festive outdoor Holiday look by Laura Tusken of Inspiration for Moms. This quick, easy and low-budget outdoor home decor will have your home lighting up the block.
One of my favorite Christmas childhood memories is driving around town to look at the homes decked out in Christmas lights. My dad, mom, sisters and I would all pile into the car and our first stop was always for some warm hot chocolate. Then, we would drive all over town looking for the best outdoor Christmas decorations. Sometimes, we would get lucky and find a whole block of houses with tons of twinkling lights. I remember thinking back then, when I grow up and get a house, I’m going to decorate it with all the lights! So when The Home Depot reached out to me again this year and asked if I would like to participate in the 2019 Holiday Style Challenge, of course I said yes! The Home Depot has all the outdoor Christmas decorations I need to make our home completely festive for the holidays! Winter WonderlandIf you are looking for creative ways to get your home festive with some fabulous outdoor Christmas decorations, I have a ton of ideas! Here’s my Christmas porch all ready for the holiday season with an added bonus this year. Mother nature joined in on the decorating and gave our home over 19 inches of fresh snow. It’s like a winter wonderland now! Decorating our front porch for Christmas has always been one of my favorite activities. Every year, I decide to do something completely different, and I always love the finished look. To keep the whole decorating process simple, I stick with a three step process. So, let’s break it down. 1. Pick Your Festive ColorThis year I decided to stick with a pretty neutral color palette. I wanted greenery to be the focus with just a few touches of red and plaid scattered throughout the outdoor Christmas decor. When I spotted this red braided outdoor area rug, I knew it would be perfect for our front door. I layered it on top of a neutral black and white striped rug. It’s a super fun combination – love it! Next to the front step rugs, I created two outdoor Christmas planters. I filled the large planters with dirt and then added a red battery operated lantern in the center of each. Then, I inserted some fresh cedar and pine greenery all around the lanterns. The greenery is really the star of the planters with the lanterns providing a nice red accent. The soft glow they give at night is a perfect way to flank the front door step in style. 2. Go Big with A Focal PointOur porch has a special addition this year with this gorgeous pre-lit lightly flocked Christmas tree. It was so lovely just by itself, but I didn’t want to keep it totally bare. So I added a few red berry twigs here and there. It was just another way to incorporate that hint of red accent color once again. The corner right next to the door was the perfect place to set it up. It lights up the corner at night beautifully, and it’s right by the door to welcome our holiday guests! But that’s not the only tree on our porch! I went big with another mini porch tree placed by our side chair. Can an outdoor porch have too many Christmas trees? I think not! The other side of the porch seating area got a festive addition with some fun red and plaid pillows. Toss a soft cozy throw on that seating bench, and you have a great place to sit and view the winter wonderland yard. 3. Add all the TwinkleThe front of our house needed some Christmas decor as well, so I simply added two artificial wreaths right on top of our sconce lights. These wreaths are so pretty! I love the plaid ribbon and extra additions of pine cones and berries. They compliment the porch so well! Plus, these wreaths come with 50 battery-operated lights. So you know what that means? No cords! The corner flocked Christmas tree definitely lights up the porch. But I just couldn’t stop there. I had to add a snowflake or two! These clear snowflake lights continue the glow from the tree to the rest of the front porch. To complete the whole lighted look, my hubby and I added some warm led lights around the upper and lower edges of the house. This is the very first year we have ever added lights all the way to the very top of the house. I’m so grateful that my hubby was willing to get on the roof for me to make these outdoor Christmas decorations monumental! Now all that is left for me to do is get the inside of the house just as decked out as the outside! I hope these tips gave you some new creative ways to decorate your outdoors for the Christmas holiday! No matter how simple or elaborate you decorate your home this Christmas, remember the best part of the holidays are the treasured memories you will make with family and friends. Merry Christmas to you!

Hosting your entire family for the holidays can be very exciting. Rashida Banks of Rashida Banks Blog was able to take advantage of a few The Home Depot products, showing how to make your space feel cozy and festive for your family during the holidays.
We’re hosting Christmas for the first time in years. I wanted to create an environment that shows the richness of our family bond, but also a space that feels cozy and festive. I like to say that my family and I are casual fancy people. I love this time of year because it gives my family and I a reason to fellowship and take a moment from our busy lives. I’m excited for the new memories we’ll create this Christmas. For this year’s holiday decor, I decided to go a bit untraditional and do more of a ritzy, modern design. I went with a flocked tree, and absolutely love the fullness and height. We have typical 8-ft. ceilings and I wanted the space to feel grand, so I went with a flocked 7.5-ft. tree. (Here’s a tip: Add larger trees that almost touch your ceiling to get that “Grand Tree Effect”). I chose brown, black, bronze, silver, white, deep gold, and clear ornaments that varied in size. I played a lot with texture as well. I found matte black ornaments, and shiny black ornaments; velvet ribbon and shiny ribbon; glitter ornaments and glass ornaments. Playing with different textures, shapes and sizes, makes the decor of a tree look more dynamic and visually appealing, giving off that ritzy look that I was going for. All of my ornaments can be found on homedepot.com or at your local store. I didn’t stop my ritzy decor idea at the tree. I carried that same theme into the dining area. There’s something about setting the table with elegant flatware and glassware! It’s such a personal touch that gets my family excited about dining together, and makes them feel special. I ordered my entire table setting from momedepot.com to save time from running around to different stores. Starting with the center, I knew I wanted taper candles to add height to the table, so I found a matte black candle holder set and candle sticks. Then, I added in some real pine tree branches that I actually bought in store from The Home Depot Christmas tree lot (they sell them in small bundles). I chose real stems because I wanted the aroma of pine to be throughout the house when my family arrives. I love a layered plate setting. Online I found these beautiful small plates that say “love, share, enjoy, and gather” that can be used for salad or dessert, and I paired them with gold rim clear plates. I also added in a Christmas tree embroidery napkin between the salad plate and the dinner plate. The gold flatware takes this table setting to the next level. It has matte and polish brass finish that looks great against the shiny black table. I topped off each setting with these wine glasses that have pine cones engraved in them to give a festive touch. I’m very excited for my family to see the holiday decor on Christmas day! I’m looking forward to playing card games with my sisters and cousins, and all the love and goofiness that happens when we all get together. So this Christmas, consider not only thinking about what colors you’ll choose for decor, but also think about the joy it will bring to everyone that comes to your home. If you’re hosting, set the table and make your guests feel special. Christmas is a time for fellowship with those closest to you. The decor is one way to help make that time most memorable. What do you do when you want to showcase your Christmas spirit but don’t have much time? Arin Agase of Happily Inspired was able to take advantage of a few festive Home Depot products, getting her home holiday ready in just 20 minutes.
Hi there! Arin Agase here, Chicago based lifestyle blogger, mama and holiday obsessed! Today’s post is truly a ‘pinch me’ moment in my blogging journey. I got invited by The Home Depot team to participate in the Holiday Style Challenge! Like many of you, the holidays are my absolute favorite time of year! I’m a homebody at heart, so anything that requires being home with my loved ones is exactly where I want to be. Cue the twinkling lights, baking, cozying up by the fire and decking all of the halls. Did I mention eating everything in sight? Getting Ready for the HolidaysAs a busy stay-at-home-working-mama (say that five times fast) I knew it was important to stay true to me. This meant simplicity. Time isn’t on my side these days, so I wanted to share an attainable holiday porch in 20 minutes or less. Yup, this was done in under 20 minutes. No time to get fancy here! Although, it certainly looks the part. Holiday decor is where I shine, and the pieces I’m about to share with you – I’ve been eyeing forever! I’m so excited to bring these out year after year and make it a fun family tradition. Below, I’m sharing everything you need to create my festive front porch in under 20 minutes or less! PS: I cannot wait to see what this looks like when it snows – will make sure to post an IG so stay tuned! Transform your space with GarlandIt’s honestly insane what some garland can do. It totally transformed our entire front porch. The one wrapped around the front door is a 17-ft artificial Poinsettia. It includes pinecones, berries and ornaments. No fussing with pieces, or trying to make things symmetrical since it’s already done for you. I just fell in love with the look of this, and the reviews didn’t disappoint! Not to mention, it looks fabulous indoors and outdoors. You can see some of the images here (what sold me on purchasing!) A couple people driving by even complimented it! I also used this 9-ft battery operated pre-lit Christmas garland on both sides of our poles. It looks even dreamier in person. The plaid bows sold me, but the pinecones, greenery and berries are obviously just as cute. I even got an extra to put in the living room (they’re that good). Ok, and lastly – this 6.5 ft olive artificial garland looks beyond realistic! We put this above our windows, but I’m already envisioning this being used as a table centerpiece during the holiday season. It’s not recommended to be used outdoors, but we have a covered porch so figured it would be fine. This would even look darling on a Christmas tree – seriously, so many uses in one. For the ultimate wow factor, I picked up (2) 4.5 ft pre-lit Amelia-Pine-Potted Artificial Christmas trees to have on both sides of the porch. I fell in love with these immediately. These are another no-fuss (simply take out of the box) and you’re ready to shine situation. Are you catching my 20 minutes or less now? Pine cones, light flocking detail, and glitter accents create a classic holiday style built for any home. The decorative base adds stability while adding a touch of elegance to any doorstep. I may have to get 2 more to have in the interior hallway – they’re that good. I also purchased these on reviews, and they certainly did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a taller style, they have a 6.5 feet style, too! These are very popular, so act quickly! Old Holiday CharmThese are the Christmas lanterns I’ve been eyeing season after season, and they’re finally mine! Personally, whenever I look at these – I feel like I’m transformed into an old holiday novel. This is another decor item that would serve just as cute inside. Perhaps next year I’ll create a fun indoor scene – the options are endless! Oh, and comes in two pieces which makes set-up a breeze (The Home Depot does it again!) My advice? If you only get one/two pieces from my list – these lanterns are it. Seriously, so good. Everyone loves them. Add the Finishing TouchThe statement wreath is like the ‘lipstick’ – it’s the finishing touch that just pulls everything together. I opted for a 36-in pre-lit artificial Christmas wreath! It looks absolutely darling day/night, and of course I stayed on theme with pinecones and berries. I’m quite obsessed with how glamorous my front porch feels with this addition. I probably need one for every window of the house now. If you’re looking for the real deal, make sure to visit your local Home Depot! They have hundreds of choice, another reason why it’s my go-to for everything for the holidays. Supplies Used

The post Festive Christmas Porch in Under 20 Minutes appeared first on The Home Depot Blog. from The Home Depot Blog https://blog.homedepot.com/festive-christmas-porch-in-under-20-minutes/ With a townhouse, Christmas decor possibilities can seem limited. Nadia Cassanova of Styled By Cassanova was able to take advantage of a few Home Depot products, showing how even the smallest changes can still make a huge difference. Happy holidays! Although decorating for Christmas can seem overwhelming, I’m here to share a few, simple options to take the stress of the holidays away. Here is a look the before: When it comes to the holidays, I’m about making small changes with that carry a big impact. Five tips for Christmas Shopping:
Interior DecoratingLet’s get started! Is it really Christmas without a tree? I put up a Westwood Fir artificial Christmas tree. It features 800 pre-lit warm white, berries and pinecone. What I love about this tree is the quick-set functionality. The tree also includes an on/off foot pedal for convenience. I flocked each level as I installed, which guaranteed an effortless install. Exterior Decorating:Now, let’s add some curb appeal! Right after Thanksgiving, my family always rides through town to see all the Christmas lights. This is my first time hanging lights outside of my home, and I will be sharing some decor tips that will make your neighbors green with envy! The finishing touches included two (2) 6.5 ft. Pre-Lit Potted Artificial Christmas Tree on the front door. The pre-lit trees offer are an easy solution to fill a normally empty space. The tree has pinecones and berries which gives it a very natural look. Next on the balcony, I hung two (2) 12 ft. Battery Operated Pre-Lit LED Woodmoore Artificial Christmas Garland. Lastly, I picked up the Meadow Frost 67 in. Life Size Animated Brown Christmas Deer Yard and the Meadow Frost 38 in. Doe. Coming home to all these decorations makes me feel a little closer to Santa’s workshop. The holidays do not have to be stressful. Take your time, enjoy the process and love on your family. I hope you found this post helpful! The post Townhouse Christmas Decor appeared first on The Home Depot Blog. from The Home Depot Blog https://blog.homedepot.com/townhouse-christmas-decor/
For many, the holiday season is about family and those traditions that evoke nostalgia and snap us into the spirit of Christmas. Ashley Thurman of Cherished Bliss was able to share the simple but timeless tradition of decorating a tree by picking up a few vintage-inspired Home Depot products and showcase her holiday style.
Every year as we say goodbye to Thanksgiving, we start to plan our Christmas Decor (or maybe even sooner). I typically decorate multiple trees, but I love nothing more than a fresh, live tree in our home. There’s just something about a real tree that adds a whole new level of coziness to our home. I decided to let my kids take the wheel this year! I’m more of a neutral kind of person, but the kids all wanted color and fun this year, so we built upon this adorable Christmas Ornament Set. Choosing the Perfect Christmas TreeWhen you head out to look for a Christmas tree there are a few things to keep in mind. Knowing how you want to decorate your tree beforehand can help you determine which tree species to go with. Since I knew we wanted a nostalgic Christmas Tree, I was looking for something imperfect and a little sparse. I love how ornaments look on trees with lots of space between branches. We used a Christmas Tree stand for trees up to 8’. It’s very important to choose the correct stand. Then we wrapped it with a tree collar instead of the more traditional tree skirt option. I love how this particular tree collar is magnetic, making it very easy to access the tree stand for adding water. Stringing Lights on a Live TreeAfter years of stringing lights on trees, I have determined the best way to do this is to go up and down vertically with the lights versus around. Not only is this easier to do with one person, but it also requires less lights and isn’t as difficult to take down at the end of the season. We used the 300-Light LED Mini Constant-On White String Lights. These came on a spool making it a breeze to unwind as I strung the lights on the tree. The spool also makes it great for storing after Christmas. To make things easier, I also purchased this basic timer so I don’t forget to to turn my lights off. Decorating a Nostalgic Christmas TreeSince the kids were in charge of decorating the tree, you can guess what they wanted to start with. Ornaments, of course! The next step was to use the plain white Christmas balls to accent the decorative ornaments. Followed by these smaller ornaments to provide depth. I always suggest adding either white or black ornaments as an anchor in a tree color scheme. Since we were going with a bright and happy theme, I chose white. Ornament Hanging TipsWhen hanging the ornaments, we hung the mini ornaments and the icicles on the ends of branches. There’s just something nostalgic about ornaments that look like they are about to fall off. Probably because my kids have broken many ornaments this way. However, with all these shatterproof ornaments you won’t need to worry about that! Add Beaded GarlandNow that the ornaments have been hung, it’s time to add the garland. I know it might seem silly to do these things out of order, but I truly believe these little details are what makes a difference in trying to get something feel a certain way, and layering things so that it is in fact seen in a certain way. When adding the beaded garland, I started at the top and draped it as it worked with the branches. For a 7’-8’ tree, I used two boxes which gave us three layers across the tree. Creating MemoriesWhen decorating a tree, it’s important to add those personal touches. It’s not just about choosing the right colors, or the right size to create this perfect blend of everything. It’s ok to step back into childhood for a few minutes and break some decorating rules. Don’t feel like your tree has to look like anyone’s except your own! Every year I buy my kids special ornaments to remember as the years go on, and this ornament set was the inspiration for this year’s tree! We have so many new memories and funny little jokes from decorating our tree this year and I can’t wait to pull these ornaments back out next year and reflect on all the good moments! Shopping List:

Finding new bedding and bath textiles can be a fun task. Leslie Saeta from My 100 Year Old Home was able to take advantage of Home Depot’s bedding and bath product offerings to refresh her space.
Finding bedding and bath towels that you love is often a daunting task. Imagine what it is like when you need to order thirty sets of towels and twenty sets of sheets for one home. We just finished remodeling a 100 year old home and are renting it out as an Airbnb. I was shocked to discover that our three bedroom short term rental needed thirty sets of towels and twenty sets of sheets. Plus, we needed ten mattress pads, 15 bathroom rugs, 27 pillow protectors, ten comforters and more. How to Shop for Sheets and TowelsNot only was I in shock with the large quantity. I suddenly became overwhelmed with the dilemma of finding the best product that could withstand a lot of laundering at a very reasonable price. Fortunately, it was easy. How to Shop for Sheets and Towels OnlineThe Home Depot, my favorite store for supplies for our remodel, has an extensive offering of home décor on their website. And their prices are amazing. I went online and did some intensive shopping. I read reviews, looked at prices per towel, and the first product I selected was the Home Decorators Plush Soft Cotton Towel Set in White. Next, I shopped for bedding. I did the same shopping, but this time I spent a lot more time investigating thread counts on sheets. If you aren’t familiar with the specifics, thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. Generally, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet. And the more likely it will wear well or even soften over time. Good quality sheets range in thread count anywhere from 200 to 800, although you’ll occasionally see numbers over 1,000. According to Consumer Reports, a thread count of 200 is fine; 400 may be softer. I decided to go with an all cotton 400 thread count sheet and chose the Home Decorators Collection 400 Thread Count Performance Cotton Sateen 4-Piece Queen Sheet Set in White. Because I had to order very large quantities of sheets and towels, I decided to do a trial order first. I ordered one set up towels and sheets to “live with them for a week and a few washings”. I washed the towels and sheets four times and they were still just like they were when I first got them. Success! I placed the big order of thirty sets of towels and twenty sets of sheets. Fortunately, the towels were also sold in a set of six which allowed me to purchase them for an even lower price. Personalizing the TowelsI love to add a bit of creativity in our home. So, I came up with a logo for our Airbnb and had the bath towels monogrammed. Also, I ordered wash cloths in a medium grey and had them embroidered with the words “make up”. I hope these get used a lot in our short term rental. More Items for The Bedroom and BathI also ordered additional bed and bath items. I selected StyleWell Medium Weight Down Alternative Cotton White Full/Queen Comforters for each bed, The Company Store Madelyn Matelasse White Cotton King Bed Skirts, Evolon Zippered Allergy Pillow Protectors, Home Decorators Collection Ultimate Comfort Mattress Pads and the cutest Jaquard Bath Rug White Cotton Bath Rugs by Better Trends. Of course, all of these items had to be ordered in large quantities too. Now that I have stayed in our Airbnb, I can personally tell you these bath and bedding items from The Home Depot are the best. I liked the towels so much that I ordered six sets of towels for our home in California too. This is the perfect time of year to refresh your sheets and towels. Even if you are only ordering small quantities! Rashida Banks of Rashida Banks blog was able to take advantage of a few Home Depot products available in store and online to show how to create a luxurious holiday decor space this season.
There’s something about equal play of mixed metals on a tree that is so luxurious. Blacks, browns, bronze, and polished nickel ornaments give a flocked tree great depth. In today’s post we’ll talk through the elements of luxurious holiday decor and the many options that The Home Depot has available either on their website or in store. First, let’s start with the tree. The foundation of Christmas decor is a great tree. I love full, tall and flocked trees, which is why I chose this 7.5 ft Home Accents Pre-Lit Tree. The flocked touch adds a nice pop of texture, and looks beautiful straight out of the box. You can even add more “snow” to a tree by pulling apart a snow cover blanket and tucking balls of “snow” around the tree. Adding Texture in DecorAn important element of luxurious holiday decor is texture. When searching for ornaments and other decorative items, go for various textures. Think velvet, shiny and matte finishes, glass, glitter, feathers, because all of these play well together in a space. When I was shopping on homedepot.com, I came across these beautiful matte black, and gold ornaments. Although they’re quite simple, the varying textured are an easy way to add dimension to the tree. Since I added the matte ornaments, I had to find the equivalent shiny version, but this time in a different size. This brings me to my next tip for luxury holiday decor, which is having various sizes and shapes of ornaments. Go big and small, round and rectangular. I added these silver ornaments to switch up the roundness of all the others. The polished nickel look also makes them stand out. These ornaments are also shatter proof, so no need to worry about them accidentally falling off and breaking. I found an assortment of ornaments different shapes, sizes, colors, and designs while shopping in-store. I love bundles like these because it pretty much designs the tree for you. You don’t have to think too hard about combining ornaments, and wondering if they will go well with each other or not. I picked up the big and medium size at my local Home Depot, but you can also order them online as well. Adding Special OrnamentsAnd speaking of combining ornaments, I always like adding specialty ornaments to a tree. Check out these 3D Bird in a tree design. This is the ornament that set the mood for the whole holiday design. I also added some glamorous owl ornaments too. The final touch that really adds luxury to a tree is ribbon. There are so many textures, patterns, and widths to choose from. I recommend starting with wide and adding another that’s smaller in width. Accenting with Garland and WreathsNow that the tree is decorated, don’t neglect the rest of the house! No matter the size of your staircase, adding garland is the perfect way to carry that luxurious feel throughout your home. Decorating a space with a pre-lit battery operated garland is even more fancy. The Home Depot carries various options in store, or if you’re too busy and can’t make it in, the same options are online, plus even more! To jazz up the garland, add some ornaments. I picked up some matching smaller ornaments in store, and I also added some matching ornaments from the tree so that everything flowed. Christmas decor is best executed when decorative items are repeated throughout your house. So, if you put black and gold ornaments on your tree, add those same colors to your garland. Did you know that wreaths don’t only belong on front doors? Add them to your walls! You can add them to a blank part of your wall, or hang it directly on top of a mirror or piece of artwork. Adding the Final TouchesThe last step in creating a luxurious Christmas is to grab all your glass jars, and fill them up with left over (matching) ornaments and some battery operated lights like these. Light your candles, start your fireplace, get some holiday tunes going and enjoy! With the help of The Home Depot, Julianna Christensen of Blush and Camo shopped online and ushered in the holiday spirit by creating a new, festive space in their home.
I’m so excited to partner with The Home Depot and take on the #HomeDepotStyleChallenge. Today, I’m sharing how I styled a few gorgeous pieces from The Home Depot’s selection of holiday home decor! Christmas Decor Inspiration9 ft. Pre-Lit LED Flocked Pine Artificial Christmas Tree with 500 Warm White Lights This is my favorite tree I’ve ever owned. It took about 10 minutes to set up from opening the box to tree fully set up in our living room. Chuck and I only needed to insert two pieces together! I couldn’t believe how simple the set up was and can’t overemphasis this point enough. This was also the first pre-lit tree Chuck and I have had. It was so nice not to have to worry about draping lights all over the tree! 36 in. Pre-Lit LED Artificial Christmas Wreath with Pine Cones and Berries This wreath also came pre-lit and I just needed to add batteries to add more light to our space. There was no set up needed! This wreath is perfect to hang on a wall or on your front porch! 17 ft. Poinsettia Artificial Christmas Garland Who doesn’t love garland during the holiday season?! I love that this garland has a beautiful poinsettias scattered throughout! I styled this garland on the fireplace, but this would also look amazing framing a window or door! The Finished LookSince all three of these pieces are statement items, I wanted to ensure they weren’t all styled in one room. I wanted each piece to stand out on their own! My husband and I have an open floor plan on our first floor, so I added the garland over the mantel and hung the wreath on our dining room wall. I anchored all of our Christmas decor with the gorgeous flocked tree! Adding the tree in-between both rooms ties our entire floor together. Chuck and I couldn’t be happier for how our Christmas decorations came together! I hope you all feel inspired to style your home for the holidays. Ashley Brooke of Ashley Brooke Designs loves hosting her friends and family any time of year, but especially over the holidays! Ashley was able to take advantage of a few Home Depot products by showing how to decorate for a wonderful entertaining Friendsgiving.
We love hosting our friends and family any time of year, but especially over the holidays! There’s nothing better than slowing down to celebrate friendship with your nearest and dearest over a good meal and homemade pie. And let’s be real, Friendsgiving is truly the official kick-off to the holiday season, so there is little not to love about this very special holiday! Over the years and many parties, I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks that have made putting together tablescapes feel like a breeze instead of chore. When you are busy in the kitchen making sure the meal turns out, the last thing you need to be worried about is the decor. All it takes is a few simple updates to make your home holiday-hosting ready. With a little Home Depot decor, Kourtni Munoz of House on Longwood Lane set the stage for a top-notch Friendsgiving feast.
As the holidays start to roll around, holiday prep can be pretty stressful; especially with traveling here and there to visit family from all over. Our family’s love for Thanksgiving runs deep and we love sharing our own traditions with others. With being a military family, we don’t have the opportunity to spend every holiday with close family. Traveling is always expensive during the holidays, so we stay home for Thanksgiving and started some of our own family traditions. I’m known for always having a home project going on and every year before the holidays, I’m sent into a frenzy of all the big and little projects I want to tackle around the house before the festivities begin. We love The Home Depot for all of our home improvement needs, and now for all of our entertaining needs the holiday season! The Home Depot has an insane selection of dining furniture, home accents and small appliances. Yes, you read that right. The Home Depot isn’t just for paint and lumber! I have worked to update our home and prepare for Friendsgiving, so I’m sharing some of the design tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. Make Your Own Drink BarWe love entertaining, and having an area to prepare a fruity or sweet drink is always a must. We created a make-your-own drink bar that’s adult and kiddo friendly. I used the StyleWell Kitchen Island as a bar cart in a little corner of our kitchen perfect for making drinks and keeping the kitchen free for cooking and guest mingling. The bar cart fits perfectly next to the mini drink fridge! We made sure to stock the bar cart with glasses and mugs available for guests to make fruity drinks, hot chocolate or some hot tea. Take a SeatSeating is crucial when it comes to Friendsgiving, you can never have too many chairs! Our dining room isn’t the biggest so taking advantage of the breakfast nook and eat-in kitchen is crucial for us. The StyleWell Black Metal Counter Stools are great for adding extra seating while without being too bulky and taking up a ton of room. Our dining room has been in desperate need of new chairs ever since our puppies decided to use them as chew toys a few years ago. We opted for the StyleWell Black Wood Windsor Dining Chair – a modern yet traditional piece. These were a must for us especially with being solid wood they’re sturdy enough to stand the test of time with kiddos and multiple holiday gatherings for years to come. We couldn’t leave out the breakfast nook and claim it as the designated kids table for Friendsgiving! Growing up we always had a kids table, and to this day we all still sit at the “kids table” even as married adults with kiddos of our own. I decided to mix different woods for our breakfast nook and go with the StyleWell Unfinished Wood Dining Chair and the StyleWell Saskia Sable Brown Wood Dining Table. Potluck Style ServingWe host a Friendsgiving at our home on Thanksgiving Day. We invite other military families and friends that aren’t able to go home for the holidays. It is a potluck-style Friendsgiving and ask all of our friends to bring their favorite family dish. So everyone has a little piece of home with them. The Home Decorators Natural Finish Buffet is perfect for hosting all of our friends’ family dishes in close reach without crowding the kitchen. The modern design and walnut finish of the buffet pairs great with the eclectic style in our home. The deeper buffet is great for storing heirloom pieces like napkins, glasses, and plates. Casual Thanksgiving DecorThis Friendsgiving we opted for small updates and a more casual Thanksgiving tablescape. Thanksgiving is a big cooking holiday so a casual tablescape with linen tablecloths, napkins and simple dinnerware was a must. Grabbing your favorite oversized vase and some fresh flowers and greenery makes for the perfect table centerpiece. We even scooped up this fall wreath to welcome guests right into the dining room for Friendsgiving. You don’t have to go overboard with Friendsgiving this year, y’all. You’ll be ready for Friendsgiving this season as long as there’s good food and good friends. And a few casual updates to your home couldn’t hurt! Are you ready for an upgrade this Friendsgiving? Make sure you shop The Home Depot at HomeDepot.com/decor first for all of your holiday entertaining needs! With the help of The Home Depot, Sandy Coughlin of Reluctant Entertainer created a new, festive dining space in her home for Friendsgiving dinner this year.
What exactly is a Friendsgiving party? Friendsgiving is everything you love about Thanksgiving—cozy food, familiar company, lively laughter—except you invite your closest friends. In sum, it is an occasion to mingle with your closest friends around delicious, comforting dishes, and simply be together. Who doesn’t love an excuse to eat and drink with your friends, surrounded by an overwhelming aura of gratitude? Count me in! Today I’m sharing my hosting tips for creating the perfect space and meal for a Friendsgiving dinner party! Make the InviteThink of people you wouldn’t normally spend Thanksgiving with. Set the date, make the invite, and start planning! The occasion is centered around gratitude, so keep it simple and fun! Shopping Online at The Home DepotWith the help of The Home Depot, we shopped online and ushered in the holiday spirit by creating a new, festive dining space in our home for this Friendsgiving dinner. Starting in our dining room, we ordered a new dining room table and chairs. We put together our sleek, low-profile teak wood dining table and 8 retro, leather chairs that are beyond comfortable—beware, your guests might fall asleep right there at the table after one bite of turkey! The instructions are easy! Ivers Black Metal Upholstered Dining Chair with Antique Brown Seat Set the TableI love to lay everything out on the table before it’s set. It gives me inspiration for the color scheme, theme, and flowers or foliage to use. Arrange all the dishes you’ll need for the party, including linen napkins and glassware. We used a eucalyptus garland in the center of the table (tied together with fishing line), and added red pears and persimmons. Next, we set the table with beautiful chargers, dishes, and linens. Classic Linen Napkins Dark Gray (Set of 4) The glassware is elegant and refracts light beautifully! We used tall water glasses and shorter wine glasses. Artesano 20-1/4 oz. Clear Large Tumbler (4-Pack) Appetizers and WineMy favorite glass and wood decanter made the wine look (and taste) so lovely. Speaking of wine, you must serve a delicious appetizer for Friendsgiving. On this beautiful board, we made an elegant charcuterie with two cheeses, red pears, fig jam, and tasty crackers. The cured meats were out of this world, and of course, we garnished it with rosemary (the herb of friendship). Oval 15.5 in. Mango Wood and Marble Cheese Board The MenuOur menu consisted a large roasted chicken, salads, rolls, and a yummy orange tomato soup! Remember, it just needs to be cozy; it doesn’t have to be fancy. We also asked our guests to bring a salad and a bottle of wine! Final Touch: Dessert and EspressoNext steps in the final touch for the ultimate Friendsgiving meal: Pumpkin Pie Squares! Using our new KitchenAid Mini Stand Mixer (in orange sorbet color), we whipped ahead the whipped cream for our pumpkin dessert. Whip and set aside in the fridge to stay cool. Artisan Mini 3.5 Qt. 10-Speed Tilt-Head Orange Sorbet Stand Mixer The best dessert always takes a few extra steps to make it tasty and memorable. Using our new food processor, we made the most delicious crust, and pressed it down into the 10×15 jelly roll pan. We whipped up the pumpkin mix in the stand mixer, and gently poured it into the partially cooked crust. Custom 14-Cup 2-Speed Brushed Black Stainless Steel Food Processor with Pulse Control Next – bake to perfection! Serve with whipped cream and enjoy with a latte or espresso! We feel the final touch to the perfect Friendsgiving Ddnner is to offer not only friendship, but coffee. Using our new espresso machine, we ground fresh coffee, and whipped up cups of espresso (and lattes). 4-Cup 15-Bar White Espresso Machine and Cappuccino Maker with Advanced Cappuccino System A great time was had by all and I can’t wait to do it again next year! Everyone knows prepping for the holidays can be a lot of fun. Destiny Alfonso of Just Destiny Mag was able to take advantage of a few Home Depot products by showing how to create a wonderful and entertaining Friendsgiving.
I’m so happy to be back on The Home Depot blog with you guys today sharing all about Friendsgiving! If you aren’t sure what friendsgiving is, I will explain it to you real quick. It’s basically Thanksgiving with your friends. That’s it! If we take things a step further, it’s Thanksgiving with the people you don’t normally get to do Thanksgiving with, but you still LOVE! Today I’m taking you on a tour of my dining room all dressed up for Friendsgiving. What I love most about Friendsgiving is there are really no rules. You can go super informal (we come in our sweats and comfy clothes the day after Thanksgiving) or you can make it an event! The Friendsgiving TableThe Home Depot has everything you need for your friendsgiving! I mean everything. We’re talking table, chairs, pots, pans, candles and dinnerware! Need new silverware? They got that! Napkins? Check. What about a new appliance to save some time in the kitchen? Yep. They got that too! It’s absolute heaven to have everything you could possibly need all in one place! My entire dining room is decked out with all my Home Depot favorites just in time for Friendsgiving. Check out what’s in my dining room and head to homedepot.com to stock up too. I love to have options when it comes to just about anything, and I especially keep this in mind while decorating. This Aldridge extendable table lets me entertain 6-10 people just like that! The everyday table seats six and is the perfect size for our family of five. But when it comes to entertaining, the more the merrier. We can pull up a few extra chairs and seat all of our guests comfortably. Classic Place SettingWhite is my favorite when it comes to entertaining. Why? Because you can add anything to it and it looks timeless. This place setting is made up of Denby Canvas dishes paired with, hammered silverware and a linen napkin draped on the back of the seat invites guests to a night of good food and conversation! Center Piece with a ViewI like to keep the centerpiece low and the candles lit when it comes to the middle of the table. You can duplicate this look by using the magnolia garland and modular candle holders all available on homedepot.com. You can line up these candle holders any way you want. They are stackable so you can make one long display or you can use them individually. Then weave the garland in and out of the candle holders while manipulating the wired garland so it lays flat and rises in other areas. This give it a more natural look. I love using the two-tone magnolia leaves during the fall! It gives a beautiful color. Then, I added some store bought pumpkins and squash for a rustic feel to the table. Drink up!We have a small area off to the side where a small cabinet can transform into a fully stocked bar! This is perfect because when we aren’t entertaining we can hide it away. The Jamison Black Bar Cabinet swivels making it easy to maneuver across the floor or even from room to room. Check out JustDestinyMag.com to see even more behind the scenes of Friendsgiving! I’m prepping my potatoes and apples in the kitchen using the most beautiful and functional tools all from The Home Depot!
